Liz Arnold and Matt Sherr Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

Liz Arnold and Matt Sherr Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

Seniors Liz Arnold and Matt Sherr of the Emory University soccer teams were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), based on their athletic and academic performance, both this season and over their careers at Emory.

This is the third straight Academic All-District honor for Arnold, earning the honor in each of her three eligible seasons, while this is the second Academic All-District honor for Sherr who also earned the distinction last year as a junior.  By virtue of being named to their respective CoSIDA Academic All-District teams, Arnold and Sherr will be placed on the ballot for the Academic All-America Teams. The Academic All-America teams for Division III will be announced on Friday, November 20th.

Arnold carries a 3.928 GPA as a double major in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology and Psychology. She is a two-time All-UAA selection and a three-time UAA Athlete of the Week honoree. This season she has earned five victories with four shutouts for the Eagles and ranks fourth in the UAA with 46 saves. This past Tuesday, Arnold tied a career-high with eight saves in a great performance in Emory’s 1-1 tie against Division I member Kennesaw State. In her career, Arnold is third all-time in shutouts (17), fourth in both wins (29) and saves (147), fifth in saves per game (2.62) and ninth in goals against average (0.58).

Sherr is a Business major with a 3.859 grade-point average. He has started all but two games in his Eagles career and needs to play just 77 more minutes to become the all-time leader in Emory history. A 2013 All-South Atlantic Region Third Team and two-time All-UAA First Team selection, Sherr earned his first All-American honor last season being named to the D3Soccer.com All-America Third Team. This season, he has started in all 14 games and has recorded career-highs with three goals and eight points. He was named the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in his career earlier this season after assisting on the game-winning goal and leading the Emory defense in a 1-0 win over then ranked #17 Washington.

Both players will also make their third appearance on the UAA All-Academic Teams this fall.

Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Emory is part of District 5, which includes Division III schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
