Hannigan Named UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week Behind Record Setting Shutout

Senior GK Abe Hannigan from the Emory University men’s soccer team was named the University Athletic Association Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 4th. This is the first honor for the Montrose, NY native and for the Eagles this season.

Hannigan posted his fourth straight and UAA-leading fifth shutout of the season as the Eagles defeated the University of Chicago 1-0 in double overtime in the UAA opener for both teams on Saturday. The senior made three saves in the victory. On the season, Hannigan is 6-3-1 with a .742 save percentage and 0.78 goals-against average.

With the shutout against the Maroons, Hannigan became the all-time leader in shutouts in Emory history with 22 clean sheets. He broke a tie with Larry Meyer (1984-86) who previously held the record.

The Eagles will be back in action as they host #17 Washington University on Saturday, October 10th at 1:30 PM at the Woodruff PE Center.
