Men's Soccer to Host #3 Chicago Saturday in UAA Opener

The Emory University Men's Soccer team returns to the pitch this Saturday afternoon as the Eagles play host to No.-3 ranked University of Chicago in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams. Kickoff is tentatively scheduled for 1:30 pm.

Emory University Eagles

The Eagles will once again try to run their current winning streak to four games as play begins on Saturday, entering the contest 5-2 overall and winners of their last three and five of six games. On Tuesday night, Emory was leading Piedmont College 4-0 at halftime before Mother Nature played a role in the outcome. A lightning delay, the second one of the evening, of an hour forced the cancellation of the contest. Since the game did not reach the minimum 70 minutes required to be considered official, all stats from the first half will not be counted.

Junior Jason McCartney leads all Eagles with three goals and four assists for 10 points on the year. His four helpers rank tied for second in the UAA while his 10 points place him tied for fourth. Junior Jake Deuel looks to remain unbeaten between the posts as he comes into play Saturday 3-0-0 in three starts this season. His three wins are tied for fifth among conference goalkeeper leaders.

#3 University of Chicago Maroons

The Maroons bring their perfect 10-0-0 record into action on Saturday, outscoring opponents 30-3. Chicago is led by sophomore Max Lopez who is putting together a very strong sophomore campaign. The second year player leads all UAA performers with 10 goals, five assists, 25 points, 24 shots on goal and 42 shots. Classmate Matthew Koh ranks second on the team with 10 points, registering three goals and four assists in nine games played. Junior Andre Abedian and freshman Dayo Adeosun are second on the team with four goals apiece while Koh and senior Brenton-Neal Desai have each netted three goals each. Junior Hill Bonin has played every minute in goal for the Maroons, posting eight shutouts for a 0.30 goals-against average which ranks seventh in Division III.

Chicago is manned on the sidelines by Mike Babst who is in the midst of his fourth season with the team. Babst has recorded a 43-17-7 while coaching the program and has led the Maroons to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

All-Time Series

Saturday represents the 30th meeting in the series between the Eagles and Maroons with Emory owning a 20-7-2 edge over Chicago. Last season, the Eagles came away victorious 1-0 in double overtime with Sebastian Hardington netting the golden goal in the 102nd minute.

Emory ventures to Birmingham-Southern College for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 pm eastern before resuming UAA action next Saturday at Washington University.
