Men's Soccer Travels to Birmingham-Southern Tuesday Night

The Emory University Men's Soccer team travels to Birmingham, Alabama to take on the Birmingham-Southern Panthers in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 pm eastern.

Emory University Eagles

Emory saw their three game winning streak snapped their last time out to drop to 5-3 overall as the Eagles fell to #3 University of Chicago, 2-0, in the University Athletic Association opener. It was the first time Emory failed to find the back of the net in the team's last 10 games.

The Eagles enter play Tuesday night with 161th offense in the nation, averaging 1.88 goals per game. Junior Jason McCartney leads all Eagles with three goals and four assists for 10 points. McCartney recorded two shots, both on goal, to lead the Blue and Gold against the Maroons on Saturday. Sophomore Moustafa Khattab and freshman Jun Tsuru have each netted two goals apiece with Khattab also dishing out two assists to rank second on the team with six points. Junior Christian Meyer is second behind McCartney with three helpers to go along with one goal for five points.

Junior Jake Deuel suffered his first career loss between the posts on Saturday but still managed a career-high five saves. On the season, Deuel is 3-1 with 14 saves (.737 save percentage) and a 1.25 goals-against average.

Birmingham-Southern Panthers

The Panthers enter Tuesday night's matchup with a 7-2 overall record but are coming off a 1-0 defeat to Southern Athletic Association opponent Rhodes College on Saturday. The Panthers feature one of the higher scoring offenses in the country, ranking 18th in the country with an average of three goals per game. 14 different BSC players have registered a goal through nine games this season with senior Dallas Coyle leading the team with four tallies to go along with one assist for a team-high nine points. Sophomore Brother Swagler has three markers on the year while adding two assists for eight points.  Behind Coyle and Swagler, eight different BSC players have netted two goals apiece on the year. Four different players have seen time at the goalkeeper position for the Panthers with sophomore Galen Curry owning a 3-0 record in four games played, three starts, posting a 0.75 GAA with 11 saves. Junior Marvin Castellanos has gone 2-2 in four games played, making two starts, with a 1.07 GAA while making three stops. Birmingham-Southern is led by Greg Vinson who took over the program at the beginning of the 2016 season after serving as the team's assistant coach for the previous 20 seasons.

All-Time Series

Tuesday marks the ninth overall meeting between the two programs since the series began in 1991. The Eagles own a 7-1 advantage and have won the last four meetings since the series resumed play in 2012 after an 18-year hiatus. Last season, Emory topped the Panthers 1-0 in overtime.
