Emory Swimming & Diving Downed by Queens University in Charlotte

The Emory University Swimming and Diving team competed in their first true dual meet of the 2017-18 season Saturday afternoon, falling to Division II’s Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte. N.C.

The Queens women’s team edged out the Eagles 169.5-92.5 while the Royals bested the Emory men 187-75. The Emory women registered three first place finishes and two NCAA B Cuts while the men posted one event win at the meet.

On the women’s side, three different Eagles took first to highlight Emory on the afternoon. Senior Cindy Cheng won the 100 Backstroke with a NCAA B Cut time of 55.79. In the 100 Freestyle, freshman Lucy Daro claimed the 100 Freestyle in a time of 52.47 and in the 400 IM, junior Julia Durmer posted a NCAA B Cut time of 4:30.63 while winning the event.

For the men, senior Oliver Smith notched the Eagles’ lone event win, taking first in the 50 Freestyle in a time of 20.92. Smith added a second place showing in the 200 Medley and Freestyle Relays and was seventh in the 100 Butterfly.

Emory returns to the pool this Saturday, October 21st with a dual meet against Birmingham-Southern. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center inside the Woodruff PE Center.
