No. 5 Men’s Soccer Wins Fifth Straight, Toppling No. 20 Case Western Reserve 1-0

The No. 5 Emory men's soccer team took down No. 20 Case Western Reserve 1-0 on Saturday afternoon behind a strong defensive performance and freshman Turner MacInnis' first career goal. The win marks the Eagles' fifth straight victory and second straight UAA win.

The Eagles' offensive opportunities were sparse, with the Spartans outshooting them 11-4 during the match. Yet, MacInnis made the most of his chance in the waning minutes of the first half. In the 43rd minute, the freshman handled a pass in from Prescott Bayman and delivered a strike on his second touch to the bottom right corner of the net to put the Eagles in front. Bayman's assist was the first of his collegiate career.

Graduate student Thomas Toney registered the only other shot on goal for the Eagles.

The Spartans continued to create chances for themselves on offense, but the Eagle defense held strong and squandered the few opportunities that presented themselves.

Senior goalkeeper Peter Wagner turned in yet another clean sheet on Saturday, notching four saves on the day. Wagner and the Eagle defense have surrendered just one goal over the course of their five-game winning streak.

With the win, the Eagles improve their overall record to 8-1-2 and their conference record to 2-0. Emory men's soccer will be back in action early this week, heading to Oglethorpe on Tuesday before getting ready to take on Carnegie Mellon at home on Saturday.
