#3 Emory Men's Soccer Rallies for 2-2 Draw at Oglethorpe

In a matchup of Atlanta-based rivals, the No. 3 ranked Emory University men's soccer team and Oglethorpe University played to a 2-2 tie Tuesday night in front of a standing-room only crowd in Brookhaven.

The Eagles, who earlier in the day moved up two spots in the United Soccer Coaches national rankings – the highest the team has been ranked in the poll since late in the 2003 season, erased an early 2-0 hole to pull out the draw, moving to 8-1-3 on the season. The Stormy Petrels now stand at 9-1-2 with the stalemate.

Oglethorpe looked primed for an upset bid in the early stages of the contest, scoring twice within the game's opening 19 minutes.

OU's Ben Alram opened the scoring just 3:16 into the game with his ninth tally of the season following the double assist from JR Cozine and Adrian Levy. The Eagles' defense faltered in the 19th minute, allowing an own goal to see the deficit rise to 2-0.

Fifth-year senior Alejandro Gomez gave Emory life late in the first half, scoring off the rebound from an Alex Mills' shot attempt in the 39th minute. The goal was Gomez's fourth of the season.

Emory was quick to even the score in the second half when senior Sebastian Rincon netted his first goal of the season in the 50th minute, ripping a shot home from just outside the 18.

The game was a nailbiter throughout the second half with both sides totaling nine shot attempts each while the Eagles led 4-2 in shots on goal. However, both defensive units were able to keep both attacking ends off the scoreboard for the 2-2 final.

Now finished with the non-conference slate, Emory will return to UAA play this weekend for the season's final stretch beginning with a tilt at home against Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon. Kickoff from the WoodPEC is set to follow the women's contest at approximately 1:30 PM.
