Men’s Soccer Falls to Rochester 1-0 in Regular Season Finale

The No. 9 Emory men's soccer team (11-3-3) traveled north to Rochester, New York to take on the Rochester Yellowjackets in the team's regular season finale on Saturday. While the Eagles managed to produce a couple of solid opportunities offensively, they failed to find the back of the net as the Yellowjackets prevailed with a narrow 1-0 victory.

The two remained scoreless in the first half, with the two sides combining for just six total shots. Of the shots in the first half, none posed a serious threat to either goalkeeper.

Early in the second half, the Yellowjackets found the back of the net for the match's lone goal. Rochester's Elijose Araujo controlled a throw in from Kol Bassuk and took an off-balance shot that found the back of the net.

The Eagles put pressure on the Rochester defense over the course of the last 15 minutes of the match, hoping to find an equalizer. In the 78th minute, senior Jake Atallah ripped a threatening shot on net, but Rochester's Santino Lupica-Tondo made a save to keep Emory off the board. Graduate student Colton Myers made a strong attempt as well, sending a header off the post before Rochester was able to clear it out.

The Eagles made one final push in the final minute of the game, sending the entire team into the offensive zone. Sophomore goalkeeper Keirnan Skelly took the game's final shot in the waning seconds, attempting a header that was blocked by the Rochester defense. On top of his shot, Skelly picked up one save on two attempts.

The Eagles finished the match with five shots on net, with Myers leading the team with two.

This match concludes the Eagles' regular season slate. Having won the UAA title, the Eagles will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles will receive their first-round opponent during tournament's selection show, which will take place on Monday, November 6th at 2:00 PM.
