Emory University graduate student Thomas Toney was named the University Athletic Association Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. It is Toney's first career weekly honor in an Emory uniform.

Toney helped solidify the Emory defensive unit this past weekend in the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament. Toney and the Eagles' backline held Brevard to just one shot on goal over 90 minutes in the team's postseason-opening win on Saturday. On Sunday, Toney and the defense held Colorado College to five shots on frame, including none in overtime, as Emory was able to mount a comeback and force the game into a penalty shootout.

The Eagles finished the season with a 12-3-4 record and advanced to the NCAA Second Round for the third time in the last five seasons.
