Men's Soccer Places Four on United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team

The Emory University men's soccer team continued to bring in accolades for its historic 2023 season on Tuesday, as four players landed on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region VI Second Team.

Graduate student Colton Myers and seniors Peter Wagner, Alejandro Gomez and Jake Atallah earned the All-Region distinction, with the four selections marking the most by the Eagles since 2010. All four Eagles were All-UAA First Team honorees earlier this month with Myers being tabbed as the conference's Offensive Player of the Year.

In his first season with the team, Myers was a catalyst on the offensive side of the ball as he led the team with nine goals and 20 points becoming the first Eagle since Jason McCartney (29) and Moustafa Khattab (20) in 2017 to reach the 20-point mark in a season. Emory went 6-0 when Myers registered at least one point and saw him record three game-winning goals. He had three braces on the year against Willamette, Catholic and NYU and posted one goal and one assist in the NCAA First Round win over Brevard College.

Wagner was a dominant presence between the posts all season for the Eagles, winning 12 games and recording eight shutouts. Wagner ranked 11th in Division III with a .864 save percentage and 19th in the country with a .621 goals-against average. He had four or more saves in 10 games including a career-best nine against Birmingham-Southern and was chosen as the UAA Defensive Player of the Week three different times. His GAA is the fourth-best single-season mark in program history.

On the heels of his fourth straight All-UAA selection and second consecutive First Team berth, Gomez garners All-Region honors for the first time in his career. The fifth-year senior matched his career-best output with six goals and finished the year with 15 points, the second-best mark of his career. Gomez recorded at least one point in eight games with the Eagles going 6-0-2 in those contests.

Atallah rounds out the first-time All-Region honorees as he started 16 of 17 games on the backline. His strong play defensively helped the Eagles transform into one of the more formidable defenses in the nation as Emory finished 19th in Division III with a .676 GAA. On the offensive side of the ball, Atallah recorded a personal-best five points, scoring goals in UAA wins over Brandeis and NYU and picked up his first collegiate assist in the regular season win over Brevard.

The Eagles ended the 2023 season with a 12-3-4 record, the most wins in a campaign since 2017, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Emory won its first UAA championship since 2012 and first outright conference title since 1998.
