Colton Myers Named to CSC Academic All-America First Team

Emory University men's soccer graduate student Colton Myers was named to the Academic All-America First Team as announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday afternoon.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must possess a 3.50 or higher grade-point average and have competed in 90 percent of their institution's games/contests or must have started in at least 66 percent of the games/contests in the year that they were nominated. This is the first year that first-year transfers (undergraduate or graduate) were immediately eligible to be nominated.

After the Eagles set a department record with 15 Academic All-Americans in 2022-23, Myers is the first to earn the distinction for the 2023-24 academic calendar. He now becomes the 214th in the history of the Emory Athletics department.

Myers is the first Emory men's soccer player to be honored as an Academic All-American since 2017-18 and the 12th in program history. He is the sixth-ever First Team selection, joining Jason McCartney (2017), Matt Sherr (2015), Adam Waxman (2010), Kevin McCarthy (2004) and John Symbas (1999).

The Stetson transfer excelled in his first season donning Emory blue and gold, leading the team to its first University Athletic Association championship since 2012 and first outright title since 1998 as he was tabbed as the conference's Co-Offensive Most Valuable Player, becoming the first Eagle to earn the honor since Patrick Carver in 2008.

Myers powered the Eagles offensively as he led the team with nine goals and 20 points while playing in 16 games. The Eagles posted a 6-0 record when Myers registered at least one point and saw him record a team-leading three game-winning goals. He had three braces on the year against Willamette, Catholic and NYU and posted one goal and one assist in the NCAA First Round win over Brevard College. He was chosen as the UAA Athlete of the Week for the first and only time on October 24th after he scored three times across UAA wins against Brandeis and NYU, helping Emory clinch the conference crown at home.

The Saint Simons Island, GA native owned a 3.96 GPA at Stetson University, graduating in 2.5 years. He is currently working to obtain his master's degree in Analytical Finance from the Goizueta Business School.

In addition to Myers, seniors Jake Atallah, Peter Wagner and sophomore Josh Grand were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team earlier this fall. Select players were then chosen to be placed on the Academic All-America ballot and were voted on by College Sports Communicators and Sports Information Directors across all Division III institutions.

The Eagles ended the season with a 12-3-4 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Second Round for the third time in the last five seasons.
