Facing one of the top NCAA Division I swimming and diving programs in the nation in the University of Georgia, both the Emory University men and women suffered dual meet losses on Wednesday night in Athens, GA.

Emory's women, ranked first in Division III, fell to the top-ranked Lady Bulldogs 141-96, while the third-ranked Emory men suffered a 144-88 defeat at the hands of ninth-ranked Georgia.

The meet was not without its highlights for the Eagles.  In the men's 200-yard butterfly, senior Patrick Augustyn finished second with a time of 1:52.36, while junior Miller Douglas followed in third with a time of 1:53.38, both good for NCAA 'B' cut times.  Junior Peter O'Brien also had a provisional qualifying mark, finishing second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:05.13.  Sophomore Ryan Bass claimed the only first-place finish of the day for the Eagles, winning the 50-yard freestyle in a mark of 21.08, while senior diver Daniel Kolb claimed second in the one-meter dive with a score of 272.70, just 2.3 points away from a qualifying score.

On the women's side, junior Anna Dobben turned in her strongest performance to date as an Eagle, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a 'B' cut time of 23.76 seconds, the fastest mark this season by an Emory swimmer.  In addition, she finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.28 seconds (also a provisional qualifying mark) and swam the second leg of the Eagles' winning 200-yard freestyle relay team along with freshman Nancy Larson, junior Ann Wolber and senior Claire Pavlak, which recorded a 'B' cut time of 1:35.35.

Dobben was also the freestyle leg on the Eagles' fourth-place 400-medley relay team, teaming with sophomore Sadie Nennig, senior Jennifer Aronoff, and junior Leslie Hackler to swim a provisional mark of 3:53.95.  Nennig also swam a 'B' cut time in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing third with a time of 2:04.30, while sophomore Sarah Greene won the one-meter dive with a score of 252.22, 2.78 points off an NCAA qualifying score.

With the losses, the Emory men dropped to 0-3 in dual meet action this season, while the women fell to 1-3.  All of the Eagles' dual meets have been against Division I opponents.

Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-0 on the season, and set a new UGA record with their 76^th-consecutive home win.  The Georgia men raised their record to 3-1-1 on the campaign.

Next up for the Eagles will be the Georgia Tech Invitational this weekend, one of three championship-style meets remaining on the 2011 portion of Emory's schedule.
