Emory Swimming & Diving Sweeps SCAD in Dual Meet

The Emory University swimming and diving teams each came away with victories on Saturday at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), with the third-ranked Emory men defeating the Bees 112-84, and the women claiming a 138-61 victory.

With the win, the Emory men improved to 2-4 in dual meets this season, while the women raised their record to 3-4 for the campaign.  The SCAD men fell to 2-8 on the campaign, while the women dropped to 1-9.

The Emory women turned in a dominating performance, winning all 11 events at the meet.  Leading the way was freshman Megan Beach, who recorded the lone NCAA 'B' cut time of the meet for Emory, winning the 200-yard breaststroke in a mark of 2:24.04.  She also claimed the top finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:33.08.

Sophomore Jennifer Pak added a pair of individual first-place finishes as well, winning both the 100-yard freestyle (53.58 seconds) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.76).  Other individual first-place finishers for Emory came from sophomore Ellen Schafer in the 50-yard freestyle (24.59 seconds), sophomore Sadie Nennig in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.06), sophomore Kylie McKenzie in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.31), senior Whitley Taylor in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.02) and senior Anne Culpepper in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.91).

Emory's 400-yard medley relay of junior Anna Dobben, senior Jennifer Aronoff, junior Ann Wolber and freshman Nancy Larson (3:59.48) and its 400-yard freestyle relay of Wolber, junior Leslie Hackler, Larson and Culpepper (3:35.35) each claimed victories as well.

The Eagles saw similar success on the men's side, winning eight of the 11 events.  Emory set the tone at the start of the meet with a win from its 400-yard medley relay team of junior Miller Douglas, junior Peter O'Brien, senior Patrick Augustyn and sophomore Jake Stephens (3:26.27).  The Eagles also capped off the meet with a relay victory, as Stephens, senior Jared Dubnow, sophomore Matthew O'Brien and freshman Andrew Dillinger won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 3:11.19.

Augustyn added an individual first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.44, while Peter O'Brien placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke in a mark of 2:07.84 and Stephens won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:56.68.  Other first-place finishers included senior Paul Weinstein in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:56.82), sophomore Ross Spock in the 50-yard freestyle (21.83 seconds), and sophomore Darrell Eacret in the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.46).

The Eagles will return to action on the road next Saturday, facing NCAA Division I Georgia Tech at 11:00 AM, one of two remaining dual meets on the team's schedule this season.
