Schneider & O’Brien Earn UAA AOW Honors

Emory University senior Jacqueline Schneider and junior Matt O'Brien were named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimmers of the Week after their performances at the Midwest Invitational last Friday and Saturday.

Schneider recorded NCAA 'B' cut times and a pair of first-place finishes in the backstroke events at last weekend's meet.  Schneider won the 100-yard backstroke with a 'B' cut time of 57.15 seconds.  She followed that with a win in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:02.71.  Schneider helped the Emory women's squad finish second at the meet.

Meanwhile, O'Brien recorded NCAA 'B' cut times in two events and a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly during the two-day meet.  O'Brien won the 200 fly with a time of 1:51.10, good for an NCAA provisional qualifying time.  He also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly, later recording a 'B' cut time of 49.41 seconds in the time trials.  O'Brien rounded out the meet with a mark of 21.65 seconds in the time trials of the 50-yard freestyle.  His performance at the Midwest Invitational helped the Emory men to a team victory at the meet.

This was the first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor for both Schneider and O'Brien.
