Emory Set to Compete at 2014 NCAA D-III Swimming & Diving Championships

The Emory University Swimming and Diving Teams will each be in search of a National Title, when the squads are in action at the 2014 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorim in Indianapolis, Indiana from Wednesday, March 19th – Saturday, March 22nd.

Preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM daily, with advancing athletes competing in the finals at 6:00 PM each day.  Fans can follow all of the action throughout the meet with live video at http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule.  There will also be live results during the meets, the link to which will be posted to NCAA.com and EmoryAthletics.com once it is made available on Wednesday morning.

The top-ranked Emory women's squad will be looking for their fifth-consecutive NCAA Championship, and the seventh overall in the program's history.  17 Emory women's swimmers were selected to the field (out of 243 total swimmers chosen for the meet), the most among the 54 teams represented at this year's meet.  Eagles selected to participate include sophomore Elizabeth Aronoff, junior Megan Beach, freshman Marissa Bergh, sophomore Carolyn Bonfield, junior Dana Holt, freshman Annelise Kowalsky, junior Nancy Larson, freshman Claire Liu, senior Courtney McDermott, senior Kylie McKenzie, senior Sadie Nennig, junior McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg, freshman Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe, sophomore Ellie Thompson, senior Brooke Woodward, junior Michelle York, and junior Nina Zook.  In addition, senior diver Sarah Greene earned a spot at the meet, based on her performance at the NCAA Diving Regionals, bringing Emory's total to 18 competitors at the NCAA Championships.

Emory women's swimmers and divers have earned National Championships in 25 individual events and 13 relays in the program's history, while accumulating 574 all-America certificates and 183 honorable mentions.

Emory's men, currently ranked third in Division III, will be aiming for their 15th-consecutive top-five finish at the NCAA Championships, after placing fifth at last year's meet.  With 14 selections (out of 236 total swimmers), the Eagles will be the second-best represented team at the meet, behind Kenyon's 18 selections.  Selected Emory men's swimmers include freshman Christian Baker, junior Hayden Baker, senior Ryan Bass, freshman Hayes Burdette-Sapp, freshman Mitchell Cooper, senior Darrell Eacret, sophomore John Galvin, junior Eric Ruggieri, sophomore Jared Scheuer, senior Ross Spock, senior Jake Stephens, freshman David Tao, sophomore Andrew Wilson and sophomore Eagan Zettlemoyer.

Emory has finished has high as second at the NCAA Championships on four occasions (2001, 2004, 2005 and 2009), accumulating 17 individual and relay National Championships.  183 different Emory swimmers and divers have been awarded 429 all-America certificates and 183 honorable mentions.
