Emory Men's Swimming & Diving Celebrates Senior Day with 177-121 Victory over Delta State

The Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a 177-121 victory over Division II Delta State at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center inside the Woodruff PE Center.

Prior to the start of the meet, the 2017 graduating senior class: Christian Baker, Hayes Burdette-Sapp, Mitchell Cooper and Andrew Wilson, were recognized with a special ceremony. The full Senior Day ceremony can be viewed in its entirety below.

The Eagles tallied 11 first place finishes and posted seven NCAA qualifying standards en route to the 56 point decision on Saturday.

Wilson led the team with a pair of NCAA B Cut performances, taking first in both the 100 Breast (54.44) and 200 Breast (2:00.27). He added another NCAA qualifying mark as part of the 200 Medley Relay in the first event of the meet. Wilson along with freshman Sage Ono and juniors Cooper Tollen and Oliver Smith claimed the top spot easily, touching at 1:30.67.

Ono registered two individual first place finishes of his own in both the 100 Back (50.00) and 200 Back (1:51.50) with his 100 time representing a NCAA B Cut time. In addition, Smith touched first in the 50 Free with a NCAA B Cut time of 20.40.

Rounding out the NCAA qualifying marks for the Eagles on Saturday were the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Smith, Burdette-Sapp, sophomore Trey Kolleck and junior Alexander Hardwick which finished first at 1:22.50 and freshman Trevor Burke in the 1-meter, 11-dives event with a score of 442.15.

Adding event wins for Emory at the meet was Baker in both the 200 Fly (1:54.80) and 500 Free (4:37.93), sophomore Thomas Gordon in the 1000 Free (9:40.61) and Cooper in the 100 Fly (51.40).

The Eagles will close out the dual meet potion of the schedule next Saturday against the University of Georgia. Action from Athens is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
