THREE-PEAT - Men's Swimming & Diving Captures Third Consecutive National Championship

The dynasty continued Saturday night in Greensboro, North Carolina as the Emory University men's swimming & diving team won its third consecutive national championship!

On the final day of the 2024 NCAA Division III National Championships, the Eagles used five podium finishes, including one national runner-up, to secure enough points to clinch the title. Across the four days in Greensboro, Emory scored 434 points and outscored second place Kenyon College by 43 points.

The national title is the fourth for the Eagles in the last six national meets dating back to 2017 and is the 33rd national championship in the history of Emory University.

Senior Jake Meyer headlined the Eagles on the final night of competition as he capped off his impressive career in the 200 Breaststroke. Meyer, who finished as the national runner-up in the 100 Breaststroke on Friday, added another silver medal to his resume as he touched with a time of 1:56.01.

Meyer's second place effort was one of three top-5 showings for the Eagles on Saturday. In the 100 Freestyle, classmate Nicholas Goudie closed out his individual career with another top-5 finish. For the third straight year Goudie placed among the nation's best in the 100 Free, taking fourth with a personal-best time of 43.67.

Goudie was not finished as he swam lead off in the 400 Freestyle Relay as he combined with senior Harrison Pire, sophomore Caden Bjornstad and junior Crow Thorsen to finish fifth with a time of 2:57.97.

The Eagles opened the evening with a 55-point lead over Kenyon but the Owls chipped into that over the first two events, making the deficit 23 points after the 1,650 and 100 Freestyles.

Despite the margin getting slim, it was the performance of the Eagles in the 200 Backstroke and 200 Breaststroke that sealed the deal.

Emory saw four swimmers reach the finals in the 200 Backstroke, highlighted by senior Ryan Soh. In the championship final, Soh added another All-America finish to his tally as he took eighth with a time of 1:49.25. The Eagles added more points in the consolation final with three finishes inside the top 14. Junior Alexander Pollack was the B Final winner with his time of 1:47.41 while junior Adam Braunschweig (1:48.13) and freshman Graham Zucker (1:48.76) placed 12th and 14th, respectively.

Following a 32-point swing in the backstroke, the Eagles made it a done deal in the breaststroke. Behind Meyer's second place effort, junior Liyang Sun came in eighth with his time of 1:59.81 and sophomore Henri Bonnault tied for the consolation win with a time of 1:59.01.

At the end of the four days in Greensboro, the Eagles saw a total of two event national champions, four national runners-up, 17 First Team All-America performances and 14 Second Team All-America finishes.

At the end of the meet, Head Coach Jon Howell was honored with his second straight and third overall CSCAA Men's Coach of the Year award.
