Senior (2005):
Jacobs received All-America honors in doubles for the
fourth time, a first in school history (he shares the distinction
with teammate Mark Odgers). Jacobs and Odgers were the No. 2 seed
for the NCAA Division III national doubles championship, where the
duo was eliminated in the round of 16. They were fourth in the
final national doubles rankings compiled by the Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) and first in the regional rankings. Jacobs
was part of the tandem that finished fifth at the ITA national
championships and won the ITA regional championship. Together, they
compiled a 21-6 record in doubles competition. In singles play,
Jacobs was 39th in the final national ITA singles rankings and 10th
in the regional singles rankings. He had a 14-3 singles record for
the season, including an 8-1 record against opponents from national
top-25 Division III teams. His career singles record of 69-13
(.841) set a school record for best career win percentage and
placed him 10th on the all-time list for career singles wins (tying
Odgers). He is second in school history for career doubles wins
(81) and sixth for career doubles win percentage (.750). In his
career, Jacobs compiled a 22-2 singles record and 20-4 doubles
record at the conference and national team championships combined.
He was selected to the all-conference team in singles for the third
time and in doubles for the fourth time.
Junior (2004):
For the third consecutive year, Jacobs made the
All-America team in doubles. He and partner Mark Odgers finished
fourth in the final national doubles rankings. The duo received the
top seed for the NCAA doubles championship where they reached the
quarterfinals. Jacobs was the lone Emory player to make the
all-conference first team in singles (No. 3 slot), his second
career all-conference singles citation. He was chosen to the
all-conference team in doubles for the third time. Jacobs compiled
a season won-loss record of 19-2 overall in singles, including a
perfect 17-0 in the No. 3 singles position. His season singles win
percentage, .905, is the fifth best in school history. Jacobs was
17-5 in doubles this season, including a perfect 10-0 mark against
opponents from nationally ranked top-25 teams. Entering his senior
season, Jacobs is on pace to finish with the best career singles
win percentage, .846, in school history, and the third-best career
doubles win percentage, .741. He ranks 19th on the Emory all-time
list with 55 career singles wins and 10th with 60 career doubles
wins.
Sophomore (2003):
Sophomore Alex Jacobs teamed with fellow sophomore Mark
Odgers to earn All-America honors in doubles for the second
consecutive year, the third pair in Emory history to do so, but
first to do so as underclassmen. Jacobs and Odgers advanced to the
semifinals of the NCAA Division III doubles national championship.
In the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Fall championships,
Jacobs and Odgers won the regional title for the second consecutive
year, the first Emory pair ever to repeat as regional champions,
and finished second at the ITA national championships. The pair of
Jacobs and Odgers was ranked third among Division III doubles teams
in the final national poll. Jacobs had a record of 22-6 (.785
winning percentage) in doubles competition, the sixth-most doubles
wins in a season in school history and the 16th best season winning
percentage ever by an Eagle. Jacobs is on pace to break the school
record for best doubles career winning percentage with a current
career doubles record of 43-16 (.729 winning percentage). In
singles competition, primarily at No. 4 singles, Jacobs finished
the season with a record of 17-3 (.850), the 12th-best season
singles win percentage ever by an Eagle. Jacobs finished 25th in
the final regional singles rankings and first in the regional
doubles rankings along with Odgers. He made the all-conference
first team at No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles, the first time he
has been selected for the first team.
Freshman (2002):
Jacobs teamed up with Mark Odgers at No. 1 doubles to earn
All-America honors. The two had a 21-10 doubles record and placed
fourth in the final national doubles rankings. In singles play,
Jacobs was 19-5, primarily in No. 3 slot, and was 19th in the final
regional singles rankings. Jacobs was 18-2 in singles against
Division III opponents and 12-1 against players from national
top-20 Division III teams.
