The No. 4-ranked Emory men’s tennis team recorded its
fifth straight win on Tuesday as it topped No. 25 Denison
University in a match played at the Woodruff PE Center. The
Eagles upped their record to 13-2 following an 8-1 decision over
the Big Red who slipped to 1-3.
Emory claimed a 2-1 lead following the doubles with the No. 3
tandem of junior Dillon Pottish and senior Colin Egan boosting
their record to 12-1 following an 8-3 victory over Juan Guerra and
Jay Fovel. After Denison tied the match following the result
of No. 2 doubles, juniors Chris Goodwin and Will Humphreys clawed
to a 9-8 triumph over Matt McErlean and Tyler Cempre at the No. 1
position.
The Eagles earned all six singles points including Pottish at No. 1
with his 6-0, 6-2 win over McErlean upping his record this spring
to 15-1, 24-1 overall. Goodwin topped Guerra, 10-0, at No. 2, his
13th win in 15 decisions this spring, while senior Colin
Egan continued his stellar play at the No. 3 with a 7-6, 6-3
verdict over Tom Cawood. Freshmen Nick Szczurek and Simon
Lavoie-Perusse came away as winners at Nos. 4 & 5, respectively
while sophomore Dylan Wright nailed down a victory at the No. 6
slot.
Emory returns to action on Saturday (Mar. 19) when it hosts DePauw
in a 2:00 p.m. match.
