Emory University junior Chris Goodwin
(Rockville, MD) has been named by the University Athletic
Association as Men’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week following
his performance in helping the Eagles to victories in the second
and third rounds of the NCAA Championships. It marks the third time
during the 2010-11 season and seventh time in his career that he
has been tabbed for the honor.
Goodwin went 2-0 in both singles and doubles in helping the Eagles
to advance in the national tourney. In a 5-0 win over Grove
City (May 14), Goodwin teamed with Will Humphreys for an 8-0 win at
No. 1 doubles before posting a 6-1-,6-0 decision over Marc Mentzer
at No. 2 singles. The following day, Goodwin helped Emory to
a 5-0 win over No. 12-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan by winning at
No. 1 doubles and notching a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Alexey
Rumyantsev in singles.
Goodwin, who will compete at in the singles and doubles competition
at the NCAA Championships, has a 21-3 record at No. 2 singles this
spring and has fashioned a 21-4 won-slate with Humphreys at No. 1
doubles. The No. 1-ranked Emory squad will play Middlebury
College in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championships on May
24.
