Emory University junior Dillon Pottish will be
the No. 1-seeded singles player when the NCAA Division III Singles
and Doubles Championships begin on Friday. Matches are taking place
at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center and Pauley Tennis Complex in
Claremont, California.
Competing in the 32-player field, Pottish will open with an 11:00
a.m. match (PDT) against Bobby Cocanaugher of Trinity University
(TX) with the winner advancing to the Round of 16 later on in the
day to meet either Matt Bettles of Bates of Max Woods of Washington
University.
Joining Pottish in the singles portion of the competition will be
junior Chris Goodwin and senior Colin
Egan. Goodwin, the No. 4 seed, faces Erich Koenig of
UC-Santa Cruz at 11:00 a.m. with the victor advancing to another
Friday match, either against Anson McCook of Trinity College (CT)
or Paul Burgin of Kenyon.
Egan’s first foe will be Max Frey Trinity (TX) with a
round of 16 matchup awaiting against the winner of the Stephen
Sullivan (Bowdoin) vs. Juan Carlos Perez-Borja (Grinnell)
showdown.
Emory will be represented in the 16-team doubles field as junior
Will Humphreys and Goodwin meet Moritz Koenig and
Wes Waterman of Amherst on Friday starting at 5:00 p.m.
(PDT). The winner of the match moves on to the quarterfinals
on Saturday.
Last year, Goodwin advanced to the title match in singles where
came out on the short to John Watts of Washington University.
