The Emory men's tennis team registered its ninth straight win
Tuesday afternoon as it topped Shorter University at the Woodruff
PE Center. The Eagles, ranked No. 2 among Division III
programs, raised their record to 17-2 following a 6-3 decision over
the Hawks who slipped to 7-2.
Emory jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles portion
of the match. The Eagles’ No. 1 junior tandem of Chris
Goodwin and Will Humphreys raised their spring record to 15-4 (22-5
overall) after coming away with an 8-3 decision over Guillaume
Ledrap and Eric Tucoulou. Also posting wins were Dillon
Pottish and Colin Egan at No. 3 and Noah Simonson and Ayush Bajoria
at the No. 2 slot.
Eagles’ head coach John Browning adjusted the singles lineup,
opting to rest Pottish and Goodwin at the Nos. 1 & 2 positions,
respectively. Emory recorded three singles wins with freshman
Simon Lavoie-LaPerusse earning a 7-6, 6-1 verdict over Tucoulou at
No. 3 while sophomore Dylan Wright battled to a 6-3, 6-4 triumph
over Bastien Russo at No. 4. Rounding out the singles win for
Emory was freshman Eric Seidelman, who, in his first action of the
spring, came out on top in a 6-4, 6-4 outcome over Grayson Jones at
No. 6.
Emory returns to action on April 12 when it plays at
Auburn-Montgomery.
