No. 2 Emory Men's Tennis Defeats Rhodes College & Sewanee

The No. 2-ranked Emory men's tennis team came away with a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon, defeating Rhodes College, 5-1, before closing out the day with a 5-0 decision over Sewanee. Both matches were hosted by the University of the South.  The two wins boosted the Eagles' spring mark to 17-0.

Freshman Ian Wagner posted a pair of singles wins, topping John Alexander of Rhodes, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot before registering a 6-3, 6-0, triumph over Alex Cooper of Sewanee at No. 3.  Wagner, a winner in his last five outings, now owns a 15-2 dual mark this spring.  Wagner also teamed with junior Elliott Kahler at No. 2 doubles and came away with a pair of wins, bettering the Rhodes duo by an 8-5 count before earning an 8-3 outcome against Sewanee.   The Kahler/Wagner tandem has been formidable this spring, compiling a 15-2 won-lost ledger.

Senior Chris Goodwin picked up a win at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1, decision over Rand Jackson of Sewanee.  It marked Goodwin's 97th career singles triumph at Emory and inched him closer to the school's all-time mark of 99 held by Gavin O'Connell (1987-91).

Emory returns to action on Tuesday (Apr. 24) when it plays at Auburn-Montgomery, the No. 5-ranked team in the NAIA ranks.
