Emory's Goodwin and Pottish To Compete at NCAA Singles Championship

Emory's Goodwin and Pottish To Compete at NCAA Singles Championship

The Emory men's tennis program will have a pair of competitors in this year's NCAA Singles Championship as seniors Chris Goodwin and Dillon Pottish have been chosen to the 32-player field.  The NCAA D-III Singles Championship will be held May 24-26 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C, and will be preceded by the team championships, May 21-23.

This marks the fourth straight year that Goodwin will play in the Singles Championship.  As a freshman in 2009, he was defeated in the opening round before advancing to the title match the following year.  Last season, Goodwin joined his older brother Michael (2009) as the only players in school history to win the national crown following his win over Pottish in the finals.

Pottish will be making his third consecutive appearance in the event.  In 2010, he recorded wins in his first two matches before falling in the quarterfinals.  In 2011, he captured four straight-set matches that sent him to the finals.

Goodwin currently claims an overall singles ledger of 17-1 this year (12-0 in the spring) and became the school's all-time leader in singles wins during the UAA Championships with an overall record of 100-20.

Pottish has rolled to a 26-2 effort in singles action, 17-1 this spring, and holds down the No. 5 spot on the Eagles' all-time ladder with 89 victories.

The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

The draw for the individual championships will be done by the NCAA Men's Tennis Committee and will be released on the last day of the team championship.
