The No. 2-ranked Emory men's tennis made a successful debut in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, upending 20^th-ranked Washington and Lee in a second-round regional  match. The Eagles raised their overall record to 21-0 following a 5-0 decision over the Generals who closed out the campaign with a won-lost slate of 16-5.  The regional is being hosted by Emory.  

The Eagles, who received an opening-round bye, put a stranglehold on the match after jumping out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles portion of the contest.   Junior Elliott Kahler and freshman Ian Wagner got Emory on the board first with a convincing 8-2 triumph over W&L's Jeremy Becht and Ben Fass at No. 2, the duo's 18^th in 21 decisions this season.  Senior Dillon Pottish and freshman Brian Kowalski picked up the next point at the No. 3 spot with an 8-3 outcome over Mac Davis and Brian Roberts, while seniors Chris Goodwin and Will Humphreys accounted for the other point at No. 1, battling to an 8-5 win over Hayden White and Taylor Shamshiri.

Needing two points to seal the match, Wagner came through at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Becht, boosting his spring slate to 19-2 (22-3 overall).  Pottish was credited with closing out the match after registering a 6-1, 6-2 verdict over White at the No. 1 post, raising his record this spring to 18-1 (27-2 overall).

The win puts Emory in the Regional Finals where it will play North Carolina Wesleyan on Sunday in a scheduled 2:00 p.m. start at the Woodruff PE Center.  The winner advances to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championships which starts on May 21 in Cary, NC.
