Emory Men's Tennis Topped By Kenyon In Finals Of ITA Indoor Championships

The No. 1-ranked Emory men's tennis team's attempt to capture its third straight ITA National Indoor Championship came up short Sunday afternoon as No. 2 Kenyon came away with a hard-fought win.  The Lords upped their record to 5-1 following a 5-4 decision over the Eagles who fell to 5-2.

Emory fell behind as Kenyon's No. 3 doubles team captured the first point of the match.  The Eagles regrouped and took a 2-1 match lead after Alex Ruderman and Eric Halpern defeated Paul Burgin and Sam Geier at the No. 2 spot, 8-4, and Elliot Kahler and Ian Wagner bested C.J. Williams and Tim Rosensteel, 9-8 (7-3) at No. 1.

Kenyon battled back to claim a 3-2 advantage after earning decisions at Nos. 2 & 3 singles, only to see the Eagles knot the match following Eric Halpern's 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over Burgin at No. 1. Freshman Rafe Moestick raised his spring singles record to 7-0 and pushed Emory ahead by a 4-3 count with a 6-4, 6-2 outcome over Tim Rosensteel at No. 5.  After a Kenyon win at No. 6, the match was decided at No. 4 where the Lords' C.J. Williams edged Kahler in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Emory returns to action on March 13, when it plays at Azusa Pacific.
