2013 UAA Championships Men's & Women's Tennis Brackets


The No. 3-ranked Emory University men's tennis team will play its final regular-season home match on Tuesday (Apr 23) when it welcomes No. 24-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan to town.  Following the contest against the Bishops, the Eagles will pack their bags and head to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the University Athletic Association Championships, April 26-28.    

The Eagles of head coach John Browning open the week with an 11-5 record and have won their last three encounters including 5-4 decision over Shorter University last Tuesday.   Emory will enter the UAAs as the No. 1 seed and will battle No. 8 seed Rochester (13-8) on Friday at 9:00 am.  The winner will advance to Saturday's semifinals to play either Carnegie Mellon (#4 seed) or Chicago (#5 seed).  The finals are scheduled to be held on Sunday beginning at 9:00 am.  Other quarterfinal-round contests taking place on Friday include No. 2-seed Case Western meeting No. 7 seed New York University and No. 3 seed Washington University going up against No. 6 seed Brandeis.    Emory heads into the competition as three-time defending champion, having topped Washington U. by an 8-1count in the 2012 title affair.   The Eagles have captured 22 of the last 23 UAA crowns and have played WU in the finals for six straight years.

North Carolina Wesleyan stands 14-7 and has won its last five matches including a decisive 9-0 victory over Christopher Newport in the USA South Tournament Championships.  The Bishops' Artsiom Prostak was named the league's Player of the Year while Robert Kjellberg, the top-ranked singles player in the South Atlantic Region, captured the 2012 ITA Regional singles championship.
