Emory Men's Tennis Holds Off North Carolina Wesleyan

The No. 3-ranked Emory men's tennis team played its final home match of the regular season Tuesday afternoon and battled its way to a hard-earned victory over North Carolina Wesleyan.  The Eagles captured their fourth straight contest and upped their record to 12-5 following a tight 5-4 decision over the Bishops who slipped to 14-8.

The deciding point of the clash came at No. 5 singles where Emory senior Elliot Kahler rallied for a three-set marathon decision over Marcus Pola, 6-7, 7-5, 6-1, raising his spring record to 11-6.   Kahler's triumph was the fourth Emory win at singles on the day and rallied it from a 2-1 deficit that it faced after doubles.

Junior Ayush Bajoria and freshman Will Adams earned the team's doubles point, capturing an 8-4 verdict at No. 3 over Marcus Pola and Johan Ljungdahl, their seventh win in 10 decisions this spring.  The Eagles emerged the first two singles points with freshman Rafe Mosetick posting a solid 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 and Adams a 6-2, 6-0 verdict against Iraklii Marutian at the No. 6 spot.  Sophomore Ian Wagner staked the Eagles to a 4-2 advantage following his 6-3, 6-3 outcome at No. 3, upping his won-lost ledger to 13-3.  The Bishops quickly knotted the score at 4-4 following their wins at Nos. 1 & 2 singles, setting the stage for the deciding match at No. 5.

The Eagles return to action on Friday (April 26) morning when they battle Rochester in the opening round of the University Athletic Association Championships in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
