Emory Men's Tennis Rolls By Rochester In UAA Quarterfinals

The No. 3-ranked Emory men's tennis team opened defense of its University Athletic Association title on a positive note Friday with a quarterfinal-round win over the University of Rochester.  The Eagles captured their fifth straight contest and upped their spring record to 13-5 following a 9-0 whitewash of the Yellowjackets who slipped to 13-9.

Highlighting the doubles portion of the match for the Eagles was the play of juniors Jackson Isaacs and Ayush Bajoria at the No. 2 spot with the duo posting an 8-0 blanking of Matt Levine and Ben Shapiro.

The bottom half of the singles lineup continued its fine play with the Nos. 4, 5 & 6 positions combining to win 36 of 39 games.  Freshman Rafe Mosetick bested Shapiro at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0, increasing his won-lost ledger to 13-5 while Will Adams came away with a 6-0, 6-1 verdict at No. 6 against Joel Allen.  Senior Elliot Kahler won his fourth match in the last five outings with a 6-1, 6-1 outcome over Ian Baranowski at No. 5.  Sophomores Eric Halpern, Alex Ruderman and Ian Wagner accounted for the team's other victories.

The win sends Emory into Saturday's semifinals where it will meet No. 16 Carnegie Mellon (13-5) in a match that is slated to begin at 2:00 pm.
