The No. 3-ranked Emory men's tennis team opened defense of its University Athletic Association title on a positive note Friday with a quarterfinal-round win over the University of Rochester. The Eagles captured their fifth straight contest and upped their spring record to 13-5 following a 9-0 whitewash of the Yellowjackets who slipped to 13-9.
Highlighting the doubles portion of the match for the Eagles was the play of juniors Jackson Isaacs and Ayush Bajoria at the No. 2 spot with the duo posting an 8-0 blanking of Matt Levine and Ben Shapiro.
The bottom half of the singles lineup continued its fine play with the Nos. 4, 5 & 6 positions combining to win 36 of 39 games. Freshman Rafe Mosetick bested Shapiro at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0, increasing his won-lost ledger to 13-5 while Will Adams came away with a 6-0, 6-1 verdict at No. 6 against Joel Allen. Senior Elliot Kahler won his fourth match in the last five outings with a 6-1, 6-1 outcome over Ian Baranowski at No. 5. Sophomores Eric Halpern, Alex Ruderman and Ian Wagner accounted for the team's other victories.
