The No. 6-ranked Emory men's tennis team opened its participation at the ITA National Indoor Championships on Friday by dropping a hard-fought decision to No. 10-ranked Johns Hopkins. The Eagles saw their spring record slip to 2-2 after a 6-3 setback to the Blue Jays.
JHU jumped out to a 3-0 lead after capturing all three doubles points. Each team claimed three singles wins, with Emory junior Alex Ruderman running his spring record to 4-0 after a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Michael Buxbaum at the No. 1 spot. Other Eagle wins in singles were recorded by juniors Eric Halpern at No. 3 (6-7, 7-5, 6-4 over Ben Hwang) and Ian Wagner at No. 5 (6-3, 6-2 over Erik Lim).
Next up for Emory is a Saturday morning match vs. No. 5 Kenyon starting at 8:00 am.
