The No. 7-ranked Emory men's tennis team closed out a brief two-match homestand Tuesday afternoon by defeating Christopher Newport University. The Eagles captured their fourth decision and raised their overall record to 6-2 following an 8-1 decision over the Captains who slipped to 5-2.
Emory jumped out to a 3-0 lead after capturing all three doubles points. The Eagles' No. 1 team of Alex Ruderman and Ian Wagner, playing together for the first time this spring, posted an 8-5 triumph over Steven Boslet and Sam Thomson, while another first-time pairing for Emory, Jackson Isaacs and Rocco English at No. 2, bettered the CNU tandem of Chiraag Shetty and Joona Rahko, 8-2. Erich Halpern and Brandon Lee were victorious at the No. 3 post, 8-3, over Arttu Fiva and Michael Dodd.
Ruderman highlighted a strong Emory performance in singles, winning for the seventh time in eight decisions at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-1 outcome over Boslet. Halpern, playing in his second straight match at No. 2, captured his third straight victory overall and raised his spring record to 5-1 after defeating Shetty, 6-0, 6-2. Other Emory wins in singles came from Ian Wagner at No. 4, Will Adams at No. 5 and Aman Manji at No. 6.
Emory returns to action when it plays at Azusa Pacific on Mar. 12.
