(Feb. 16) - The No. 6-ranked Emory University men's tennis team heads to St. Peter, Minnesota, this weekend (Feb. 20-22) when it  takes part in the ITA National Indoor Championships.  Serving as the host of the Championships will be Gustavus Adolphus College with all the matches taking place at the Swanson Tennis Center.

This year's field is stacked with talent with all eight teams ranked among the top 14-D-III squads including seven that find themselves in the top 10.  Washington University enters this year's event as the defending champ after topping Johns Hopkins in the 2014 title match.
Emory has enjoyed success at the National Indoor Championships with five titles (2012, 2011, 2009, 2005, 2004) in the 14-year history of the tournament

Emory enters the event as the No. 3 seed and will battle No. 6 seed and 9th-ranked Carnegie Mellon in its opening match on Friday starting at 11:30 am (CST).  The winner will advance to the semifinals on Saturday to meet either Wash U or Kenyon College.  The final is slated for Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.

Emory stands 2-0 entering the weekend after notching a pair of season-opening victories.  The Eagles rolled by SCAD/Atlanta, 9-0, on Friday before battling to a 5-4 marathon decision over Auburn-Montgomery, the No. 3-ranked program in the NAIA ranks.  With the match deadlocked at 4-4, sophomore Josh Goodman came through with the winning point at No. 6 singles, rallying for a 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 outcome over Francisco Mendieta.  Other singles winners included senior Alex Ruderman at the No. 1 spot and classmate Ian Wagner at No.3.   The Eagles captured two of the doubles matches, with senior Eric Halpern and freshman Scott Rubinstein winning at No. 2 and junior Rafe Mosetick and freshman David Omsky at No. 3.

Emory was to have played the University of the South on Feb. 16, but that match was postponed and will be re-scheduled for a later date, as will the contest vs. Oglethorpe, which was slated to be played this past Saturday following the AUM affair.
