Emory Trio To Compete At NCAA D-III Singles & Doubles Championships

Emory Trio To Compete At NCAA D-III Singles & Doubles Championships

The Emory men's tennis program will have three competitors in this year's NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships with seniors Eric Halpern and Alex Ruderman taking part in singles action, while Ruderman and senior Ian Wagner were selected for doubles.  The NCAA D-III Singles and Doubles Championship will be held May 21-23 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, and will be preceded by the team championships, May 18-20.

Ruderman who will be making his second straight appearance in the Singles Championship, has held down the No. 1 spot in the Eagles lineup, posting an overall record of 19-9. Ruderman, whose 79 career singles wins is 11th all-time at Emory, is the No. 3-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region.  Earlier in the campaign, he captured the ITA South Region singles title.

Halpern is no stranger to the NCAA Singles Championships, with this year's selection his third straight appearance in the competition.  Last year, he won his opening two matches en route to advancing to the quarterfinals.  Ranked as the No. 8 player in the region, Halpern has competed in Emory's No. 2 singles slot for most of the year and claims an overall record of 17-9.

Wagner will be making his second trip to the Doubles Championship with hopes of repeating his 2013 effort where he teamed up with Elliot Kahler to win the championship, the first-ever Emory tandem to accomplish that feat.  The Ruderman/Wagner duo has been formidable as Emory's No. 1 team with a No. 2 ranking in the region and a won-lost slate of 19-8.  Ruderman and Wagner won the ITA South Region crown back in the fall. Wagner has recorded 84 career doubles victories, fourth highest in program history.

Junior Rafe Mosetick was chosen as the Atlantic South Region's alternate in singles.

The No. 4-ranked Eagles, 16-6 on the year, begin the team portion of the NCAA D-III Championships action on Saturday (May 9) when they play either Juniata or Messiah in second-round action at the Lexington, Virginia, Regional hosted by Washington and Lee University.
