Emory Men's Tennis Defeats Washington & Lee

Emory Men's Tennis Defeats Washington & Lee

Playing its first home match in over three weeks, the Emory men's tennis team posted a Tuesday afternoon victory over Washington & Lee University.  The No. 2-ranked Eagles won for the sixth straight time and raised their overall record to 14-4 following a 5-0 outcome over the 26th-ranked Generals who slipped to 12-6.

Emory took command of the match after claiming all three doubles matches. At No. 1, junior Scott Rubinstein and sophomore James Spaulding got things started with a decisive 8-1 decision over Will Bannister and Zack Ely for their 11th victory this spring in 18 decisions.  At third doubles, junior David Omsky and sophomore Jonathan Jemison raised their spring slate to 9-4 after bettering Mac Zheng and Thomas Harmon.  Junior Max Renke and sophomore Adrien Bouchet closed out the sweep with an exciting 9-7 come-from-behind decision over Jordan Krasner and Mitchell Thomas at No. 2, upping their spring record to 12-5.

Two singles matches were played before the conclusion of the match.  Senior Aman Manji notched a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Krasner at No. 1, improving his spring record to 14-4, while Jemison topped Bannister, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, also improving his ledger to 14-4.

Emory will now turn its attention to this weekend's UAA Championships at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.  The Eagles are the defending champs and No. 1 seed, and will square off against No. 8 seed Rochester on Friday (Apr. 21) starting at 9:00 am.
