2017 UAA MEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS WEBSITE
The No. 2-ranked Emory University men's tennis team will pack its bags and head to Florida to compete in the University Athletic Association Championships. The competition runs Friday through Sunday (Apr. 21-23), and will be held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.
The Eagles of head coach John Browning, 14-4 (11-1 in D-III) on the year, enter the Championships as the No. 1 seed and will battle No. 8-seed Rochester (9-9) at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The winner of that contest advances to the semifinals on Saturday to meet the victor of the No. 4-seed Carnegie Mellon (15-7) vs. No. 5-seed Case Western Reserve (19-4) affair. Other first-round match-ups will see No. 2-seed Washington University (13-3) take on No. 7-seed Brandeis (10-6) and No. 3-seed Chicago (15-3) square off against No. 6-seed NYU (9-2). The championship match will be held on Sunday beginning at 9:00 am.
Emory has captured 25 of the 29 UAA titles and is aiming to bring home its third straight conference crown. Last season, the Eagles bested Washington University, 6-3, in the title clash.
This year's UAA Championships certainly shape up as a competitive event. Including Emory, four squads are ranked among the top seven D-III programs nationally including Chicago (#5), Wash U (#6) and Carnegie Mellon (#7). Rounding out the top-40 ranked teams are Case Western (#12), NYU (#31) and Brandeis (#34).
The Eagles closed out the home portion of its regular-season schedule on Tuesday (Apr. 18) with a 5-0 victory over Washington and Lee University.
