Emory Men's Tennis Dominates UAA All-Tournament Team -- Manji Named MVP

Emory men's tennis dominated the 2017 University Athletic Association All-Tournament Team following its first-place performance at the league championships last weekend.  The Eagles landed four first-team berths in singles and one in doubles.

Highlighting the Emory representatives was senior Aman Manji (Sammamish, WA), who in addition to his first-team nod at No. 1 singles, was selected as Tournament's MVP.   Manji leads the team in wins, compiling an overall record of 26-5 this season, 17-4 during the spring portion of the schedule with all of those decisions coming at the No. 1 post.   The No. 1-ranked singles performer in the D-III ranks, Manji turned in a 3-0 slate at the UAA Championships including a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Washington University's Johny Wu, who was ranked the No. 3 player in the Central Region. Manji's other triumphs came against Sam Leeman of Rochester and Daniel Levine (#2-ranked in Atlantic South Region) of Carnegie Mellon.  It marks the third straight season that he had played his way into first-team honors, capturing the award in 2015 at No. 6 singles and in 2016 at No. 3.

Sophomore Jonathan Jemison (Marietta, GA), the No. 10-ranked singles player nationally (No. 3 in Atlantic South Region), garnered first-team accolades at No. 2 after rolling to three straight-set victories, boosting his season mark to 22-4 (17-4 spring). Jemison opened UAAs with an outcome over Rochester's Masaru Fujimaki before topping CMU's Michael Rozenvasser, the nation's No. 4-ranked singles performer, 6-1, 6-3, and Wash U's John Carswell, 6-1, 6-4.

Sophomore Adrien Bouchet (Oakton, VA) was tabbed with the honor at the No. 3 slot after turning a 3-0 record at the UAAs, including a 7-5, 6-4 decision against Bernardo Neves of Washington University in the championship match. Bouchet, currently on a seven-match win streak, stands 15-6 overall this season, 12-5 in the spring.

Junior Scott Rubinstein (Madison, CT) rounded out the first-team award winners at No. 6, chalking up a 3-0 mark at the conference championships, including a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4, outcome over Kiril Kirjov of Carnegie Mellon.

In doubles, the No. 3 tandem of Jemison and junior David Omsky battled their way to first-team recognition.  The duo emerged victorious in all three of their UAA matches, improving their overall record to 20-5 and spring ledger to 12-4.

Ranked No. 2 nationally, Emory, 17-4 on the campaign and winners of its last nine encounters, will hear on May 8 as to what awaits it in the postseason when the selections to the NCAA Championships are announced.
