No. 2-Ranked Emory Men's Tennis To Host Opening Rounds Of NCAA Championships

The No. 2-ranked Emory University men's tennis program has been selected as one of the 43 teams to participate in the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships.  The Eagles will host the opening rounds of action that will be held this Friday through Sunday (May 12-14).   It marks the 28th consecutive year that Emory has advanced to the NCAA Tournament.  All matches will be played at the Woodruff PE Center. 

After receiving a first-round bye, Emory (17-4) begins action on Saturday, battling the winner of Friday's opening-round match between USA South Athletic Conference champion North Carolina Wesleyan (19-4) and President's Athletic Conference titlist Thomas More (14-5-2).
The victor of the Emory vs. NC Wesleyan/Thomas More affair moves into Sunday's third round to face either No. 22-ranked Sewanee (21-3), the Southern Athletic Association champ, or No. 29 Washington and Lee (16-6), winners of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference crown.

Times for this weekend's action will be announced on Tuesday, May 9.

Over the past 27 years the Eagles have advanced to at least the quarterfinals on 25 occasions. Emory has earned a spot in the national semifinals in 11 of the past 15 seasons has won national crowns in 2003, 2006 and 2012.

Emory is one of three University Athletic Association schools competing in this year's NCAA Tournament.  Conference schools who will be joining the Eagles include No. 4-ranked Washington University and No. 6 Chicago.

Emory last played the weekend of Apr. 21-23 when it captured the UAA Championships.  The Eagles bested New York University (9-0) and No. 7 Carnegie Mellon (6-3) in their first two matches before topping Washington Univ., 8-1, in the championship clash.
