Emory Men's Tennis Places Four Participants At the NCAA D-III Singles & Doubles Championships

The Emory men's tennis program will have four competitors in this year's NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships with senior Aman Manji and sophomore Jonathan Jemison taking part in singles action, while junior Scott Rubinstein and sophomore James Spaulding team up in doubles. The NCAA D-III Singles and Doubles Championship will be held May 25-27 at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and will following the team championships, May 22-24.

The individual championships will consist of 32 players and 16 doubles teams.  The selection of teams and individuals is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Manji will be making his first appearance in the Singles Championships.  The No. 1-ranked player in the Division III ranks, he has compiled a won-lost record of 26-5, 17-4 in dual competition, with all of those decisions coming at the No. 1 spot.  Earlier in the season, he played his way to All-America recognition after winning the ITA South Region Singles Championship. He followed that performance by capturing the Division III singles title at the ITA Oracle Cup, just the second Emory player in program history to accomplish that feat. Recently named the Most Valuable Player at the University Athletic Association Championships, he is 24th on the program's all-time list with 64 wins.

Jemison, who is playing in his second straight Championships, has hammered out a 22-5 won-lost ledger, including a 17-4 effort in dual action, all at the No. 2 slot. The No. 3-ranked player in the Region and 10th nationally, Jemison has won his last five matches heading into this weekend's opening rounds of the NCAA Championships. Career-wise, he stands 49-10 in singles affairs, with his .830 winning percentage fourth all-time at Emory.

The tandem of Rubinstein and Spaulding will be making their second appearance at nationals, having won a match last season en route to advancing to the quarterfinals. The pair have held down the No. 1 doubles positions in all 21 matches and own a 13-8 record, 16-9 overall. Rubinstein and Spaulding are the No. 1-ranked team in the Atlantic South Region.

The No. 2-ranked Eagles, 17-4 on the year, begin the team portion of the NCAA D-III Championships action on Saturday (May 13) when they host either North Carolina Wesleyan or Thomas More in second-round action.
