Emory Men's and Women's Tennis Teams To Compete At 2018 ITA National Indoor Championships

Emory Men's and Women's Tennis Teams To Compete At 2018 ITA National Indoor Championships

The Emory men’s and women’s tennis programs will be competing at their respective 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III National Team Indoor Championships.  The announcement was made by the ITA earlier this week.

The men’s tournament will be held, February 23-25, at the Swanson Tennis Center and one additional facility in St. Peter, Minnesota.  Serving as the host is Gustavus Adolphus.  Emory head coach John Browning and his squad headline the eight-team field after coming off a Division III national title earlier this spring.  The Eagles will enter the competition as the two-time defending champion.  Four other top-10 schools will vie for the title including No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, No. 6 Washington University, No. 9 Chicago and No. 10 Carnegie Mellon.  Rounding out the hopefuls are top-20 ranked teams University of Redlands (No. 11), No. 13 Trinity (TX) and No. 16 Gustavus Adolphus. All rankings are based at the end of the 2016-17 season.

The women’s action runs from March 2-4 with Sewanee: The University of the South hosting for the second straight year. Head coach Amy Bryant and her charges, the 2017 NCAA D-III runner-up, aim to defend their title after topping Pomona-Pitzer, 5-4, in the 2017 final.  The women’s field is loaded with talent with the other seven schools all ranked among the top 20 at the conclusion of the 2017 campaign.  Pomona-Pitzer (No. 6), Chicago (No. 9), Carnegie Mellon (No. 10), Washington University in St. Louis (No. 11), Washington & Lee (No. 12), Johns Hopkins (No. 13) and Sewanee (No. 17) round out the women's draw.
