Emory Men's Tennis To Compete At ITA National Indoor Championships

2020 ITA NATIONAL INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS WEBSITE

The No. 1-ranked Emory University men's tennis team heads to Saint Peter, Minnesota, this weekend (Feb. 21-23) to compete in the 2020 ITA National Indoor Championships.  Serving as the host of the Championships will be Gustavus Adolphus, with matches taking place at the Swanson Tennis Center.

The Eagles of head coach John Browning aim to bring the 2020 title back to Atlanta after finishing runner-up to University Athletic Association rival Chicago in last year's finals. The setback to the Maroons ended Emory's three-year run as champions of the event.

Overall, Emory has enjoyed success at the National Indoor Championships with eight titles (2018, 2017, 2016, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2005, 2004) in the 19-year history of the tournament.

This year's field is stacked with talent as all eight teams are ranked among the top 20-D-III squads, including five that find themselves in the top 10.   In addition to Emory, other top-10 programs making their way to Saint Peter include No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, No. 4 Chicago, No. 8 Brandeis University and No. 9 Washington University.

Emory, the No. 1 seed, will battle No. 8 seed and 20th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus in its opening match on Friday starting at 8:00 pm (EST).  The winner will advance to the semifinals on Saturday (1:00 pm EST) to meet either No. 4 seed Brandeis or No. 5 seed Wash U. The championship match is slated for Sunday at 9:00 am.

Other Friday match-ups include No. 3 seed Chicago vs. No. 6 seed Kenyon and No. 2 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps squaring off with No. 7 seed Case Western.

Emory stands 1-0 entering the ITA National Indoors after defeating Point University, 8-1, on Feb. 14.
