Nolan Shah Captures ITA Regional Singles Title

Emory University junior Nolan Shah captured the ITA South Regional Singles title Sunday afternoon on the final day of the tournament in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Shah became the latest Eagle to win the singles championship for the Emory men as he defeated Sewanee's Jordan Theron 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 in the finals. It is the 14th singles title for the Eagles of the last 16 ITA Regionals. By virtue of his win, Shah garners All-America honors and will advance to the ITA Cup which will be held October 13-16 in Rome, GA.

Shah reached the finals after he defeated teammate Emilio Van Cotthem 6-0, 6-4 in the semifinals earlier on Sunday. In the other semifinal match, graduate student Charlie James fell in three sets to Theron, 2-6, 6-2, 4-6.

The all-Emory doubles final featuring the top two seeded teams in Shah/John Lasanajak and James/Ryan Glanville, originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, will be played at the WoodPEC on Monday.
