Men's Tennis Takes Down Pomona-Pitzer in ITA Indoors Consolation Round

The Emory University men's tennis team bounced back Saturday afternoon, taking down Pomona-Pitzer College in the consolation round of the ITA National Indoor Team Championship. The win moves the Eagles into tomorrow's fifth-place match where they will oppose either NC Wesleyan or host Gustavus Adolphus.

Emory was in complete control on Saturday, cruising to the 7-1 win over the Sagehens including a clean sweep in doubles to open the match. Graduate student Charlie James and junior Ryan Glanville finished first with their 8-3 decision on court two before the Eagles had a pair of 8-6 wins from Andrew Esses/Nolan Shah on court one and Samuel Dean/Dean Kamenev on court three.

The Eagles seized control of the match with strong play from the bottom half of the lineup as courts four, five and six were the first to finish, clinching the match for Emory.

Sophomore Emilio Van Cotthem came through with the team's fourth point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at six before James and junior Brandon Cohen finished moments apart on four and five. James was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at the four spot with Cohen posting the 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Shah rounded out the Emory singles winners, recording a 7-6, 6-1 decision at the second position while Kamenev was locked into a tight 6-7, 7-5 battle on the third line prior to the match going unfinished.
