Men's Tennis Rallies for 5-3 Win Over Gustavus Adolphus in Fifth Place Match

The Emory University men's tennis team rallied for a win over host Gustavus Adolphus College to win the fifth-place match at the ITA National Indoor Championship Sunday afternoon. Trailing 2-1 entering singles play, the Eagles rattled off wins in four of five matches to secure the 5-3 victory.

The Gusties picked up wins on courts one and three in doubles but graduate student Charlie James and junior Ryan Glanville was able to send Emory into singles only down one with an 8-6 win at the second positon.

In singles, GAC earned a win on court six but victories on court two from freshman Dean Kamenev (6-3, 7-5), court four by junior Brandon Cohen (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) and court five by sophomore Emilio Van Cotthem (6-4, 7-5) put Emory in front 4-3 with matches in the third set on courts one and three.

The decisive point came on court four as James scored the clincher with his three set win, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4. Senior Andrew Esses led his match on one 6-7, 6-2, 3-1.

Emory will return to Atlanta and is set to host SCAD at home on Sunday, March 5 at 1:00 PM.
