Three from Men’s Tennis Advance to ITA Regional Semifinals; Shah/Kamenev Reach Doubles Semis

The Emory men's tennis team carried its momentum from Friday into Day Two on Saturday, as the Eagles advanced three players to the semifinals in the singles draw and one doubles team to the semifinals.

Sophomores Eshaan Dani and Dean Kamenev will both make their first career appearances in the ITA South Regional semifinals on Sunday after winning their matches on Saturday. Reigning ITA South Regional singles Champion senior Nolan Shah will make his return to the semifinals, looking to defend his crown.

Dani was once again impressive on Saturday, dropping just one set in his quest to a semifinal appearance. Kamenev swept both of his matches 2-0, including a win in the quarterfinals over teammate freshman Christian Liew. Kamenev will look to play spoiler tomorrow, as he takes on No. 1 seed Jordan Theron with a spot in the championship on the line.

The returning champion, Shah, won his third-round bout with ease, dropping just two points in the two sets. He had to battle in the quarterfinals, winning narrowly in three sets (7-6 (3), 6-7 (5), 6-3). Shah will take on his doubles teammate, Kamenev, in the semifinals tomorrow morning.

With three Eagles advancing to the singles semifinals, Emory is guaranteed to send at least one representative to the finals of the main draw.

Freshman Ryan Nash's first college tournament was an impressive one, advancing to the quarterfinals of his first ITA Regional before falling in two sets to top-seeded Theron.

Shah and Kamenev teamed up in the main doubles draw at the tournament and dominated their competition on Saturday. No. 2 seeded duo ripped off two wins today, winning 8-2 in the second round and 8-4 in the quarterfinals.

Senior Samuel Dean and Liew paired up in the doubles draw, winning their first two rounds with ease before falling in the quarterfinals 8-4.

Sophomore Alex Marino made waves in the Purple Singles Draw, ripping off two more wins on Saturday to advance to the championship. Marino also finds himself in the finals of the doubles championship of the Purple Draw alongside teammate Luca Lipari.

The Eagles will start the day with the singles matches beginning at 9:00 AM and the doubles semifinals set to start at 2:00 PM.
