Kamenev Takes Down No. 1 Seed in Round One of Singles in ITA Cup; Shah and Kamenev Advance in Doubles

Emory's men's tennis team sent two representatives to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia with senior Nolan Shah and sophomore Dean Kamenev making the trip. Kamenev earned an at-large bid to the singles portion of the event when he finished runner-up ITA South Regional last month. Shah joined Kamenev in the doubles portion of the tournament, earning an automatic bid when they won the ITA South Regional. The Eagles advanced in both portions of the tournament, keeping their championship aspirations alive.

Kamenev started the day for the Eagles in a singles match against No. 1 seeded and defending ITA Cup Singles Champion Advik Mareedu from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The sophomore refused to let the seeding determine the outcome, though, handling Mareedu in two sets (6-4, 7-5). With the win, Kamenev advances to Day Two and will take on Concordia University's (TX) Joshua Bode in the quarterfinals.

The ITA South Regional champions dropped their first set, but quickly rallied to win their second set in a tie breaker to force a third and final set. The Eagles pulled away to win the match and advance to the second round of the tournament (4-6, 7-6, 10-5).

Kamenev will start the day with his singles match at 1:30 PM before he teams up with Shah for their doubles match at 7:00 PM.
