Men's Tennis Downs North Georgia at Home, 5-2
  1. The No. 2 ranked Emory University men's tennis team returned to the courts for the first time in two weeks and came away with a 5-2 victory over Division II's No. 9 ranked team, the University of North Georgia Nighthawks, Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.

The Eagles picked up two quick doubles wins with freshman Christian Liew and graduate student Justin Waldman earning the 8-2 victory on court three to open the match before senior Nolan Shah and sophomore Dean Kamenev improved to 11-1 this spring, 19-2 overall, with their 8-5 win on court two. The Nighthawks salvaged a point at the top spot though, defeating senior Brandon Cohen and senior Ryan Glanville in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (3).

Leading 2-1 heading into singles, the Eagles secured three of four matches to earn the clincher.

UNG evened the score at 2-2 as Kamenev dropped a straight-set match 6-0, 6-4 at the first singles position. After that though it was all Eagles with three straight wins to seal the match victory.

Waldman was the first to win on court four, dropping his opponent by a 6-2, 6-2 margin. On court six, junior Emilio Van Cotthem claimed a 6-1, 6-3 and on court three, Glanville provided the clinching point with his 6-4, 6-4 decision.

At the conclusion of the match, the Eagles also held a lead on court five with Liew in front 6-1, 3-4.

Emory has a quick turnaround as it is set to face No. 20 ranked North Carolina Wesleyan on Monday at 1:00 PM at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumnter, South Carolina.
