Emory Athletes Record 19 Top-10 Finishes at the Appalachian Open

In the team's second meet of the 2009-10 indoor track and field campaign, Emory University saw a school-record fall and recorded 19 top-10 finishes against mostly Division I competition at the Appalachian State University Open in Boone, NC.

Emory freshman Theresa Ford set a new school indoor record with a height of 1.68 meters in the high jump, breaking former Eagle Ashley DeMarco's record of 1.66 meters set during the 2007 season.  Ford finished second overall in the event, and her height exceeded the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.  Sophomore Lauren Attiah came in sixth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.58 meters.

Emory senior Kara Cutrona recorded a pair of top-10 finishes with a fourth-place finish in the shot put (11.36 meters) and a ninth-place finish in the weight throw (10.73 meters).  In the 55-meter dash, sophomore Alix Dyer came in third with a mark of 7.35 seconds, while Alisha Reynolds was seventh with a time of 7.59 seconds.  Reynolds would also finish fifth in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 1:00.01, while junior Melanie Levy was just ahead of her with a career-best time of 59.66 seconds and a third-place finish.

In the 55-meter hurdles, senior Brittany Donino claimed sixth with a mark of 8.96 seconds, while sophomore Jasmine McCullough was eighth in a time of 8.97 seconds.  Rounding out the meet, Emory's 4x400-meter relay team of Reynolds, Hadiza Sa-Aadu, Levy and Dyer finished second in a time of 4:03.69.

For the men, the 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Isaac Chambers, senior Chike Brennen, sophomore Ian Francis and senior Tyler Faits finished third with a mark of 3:28.77.   Faits also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.25 seconds.

The Eagles placed three in the top-10 of the men's 55-meter hurdles, as Everett Bryant claimed sixth (7.93 seconds), Steve Dry took seventh (7.98 seconds in the preliminaries and 8.02 seconds in the finals) and Fritz Hain came in 10th (8.14 seconds).

In the field, freshman Anthony Lombardo cleared a height of 4.25 meters for a sixth-place finish in the event.  It was the third best indoor mark in school history, and the highest vault by and Eagle since the 1995 season.  Also in the field, sophomore Ben Euwer finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.84 meters, and freshman Nelson Nwannunu claimed seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.89 meters.

Emory will return to action next weekend, as the Eagles will partake in the Niswonger Invitational at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN on Friday and Saturday.
