Emory Adds Four More Qualifying Times at the Ole Miss Invitational

The Emory University track and field team added four more NCAA provisional times this weekend, while competing at the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, MS.

Sophomore sprinter Alix Dyer recorded a provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter dash with a new school record mark of 56.75 seconds, becoming the first woman in Emory’s history to break 57 seconds in the event.  She finished 18th overall in the 400-meter dash at the meet.

Emory sophomore Lauren Attiah provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the long jump and triple jump.  In the long jump, Attiah finished 11th and recorded a distance of 5.61 meters, a career best and the fifth-best mark overall in school history.  In the triple jump, Attiah claimed 13th with a jump of 11.62 meters, matching her season best.

The Eagles also received an NCAA qualifying time from its 4x100-meter relay team, which finished seventh with a mark of 57.52 seconds, the third-fastest time in school history.

Other top Emory finishers at the meet included Mary Crystal Spence in both the 100-meter dash (32nd, 12.67 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (30th, 25.47 seconds), and Brittany Donino in the 100-meter hurdles (15th, 15.03 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (17th, 1:04.60).  For the Emory men, the top finishers were junior Everett Bryant in the 100-meter dash (44th, 11.81 seconds) and the 110-meter hurdles (14th, 15.45), senior Tyler Faits in the 200-meter dash (37th, 22.33 seconds) and 400-meter dash (22nd, 49.76 seconds), and senior Fritz Hain in the 400-meter hurdles (16th, 55.63 seconds).

Emory also competed at the Furman Invitational on Saturday.  Senior Alex Robin finished first in both the 800-meter run (1:55.69) and the 1,500-meter run (4:02.09).  Other first-place finishers for the Emory men included Brad Pruente in the 110-meter hurdles (15.99 seconds), Pat Lanter in the long jump (6.19 meters), Xavier Fowler in the triple jump (13.35 meters) and Don Wang in the javelin throw (52.21 meters).

Freshman Theresa Ford won five events during the Furman Invitational, coming in first in the high jump (1.57 meters), the long jump (5.25 meters), the triple jump (10.15 meters), the discus throw (36.91 meters) and the javelin throw (32.16 meters).  Other first-place finishers for the Emory women at the Furman Invitational, included Alicia Adams in the 200-meter dash (26.97 seconds), Melanie Levy in the 400-meter dash (1:00.32), Melanie Frank in the 800-meter run (4:47.79), Allison Browne in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.89) and Kara Cutrona in the shot put (10.94 meters).

The Eagles will be back in action next weekend for their final tune-up before the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, as Emory will take part in the Auburn War Eagle Invitational on Friday, April 16th and Saturday, April 17th.
