Eagles Record Five Qualifying Marks during Weekend Meets

Emory University senior Greg Decker broke his own school-record time in the 10,000-meter run, and Alex Robin, Alex Greenhouse, Lauren Attiah, and the Eagles’ women’s 4x100-meter relay team all recorded provisional qualifying marks as the Eagles were in action at two meets this weekend.

The performances of Decker and Robin both came at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, hosted by North Central College in Naperville, IL.  Decker recorded a provisional qualifying time of 30:55.94, becoming the first Eagle to record a time under 31 minutes in the event, and breaking his previous school-record time of 30:55.94.  Decker finished 10th in the 10,000-meter run, and was followed by teammate Paul Winterhalter, who finished 18th in a time of 31:24.63.

Robin finished 12th in the 800-meter run, with a provisional qualifying time of 1:52.92, a new personal best.  His mark currently places him 21st among all Division III competitors in the event.  Junior Jason Campbell finished 31st in the event with a time of 1:55.27.

Also competing for the Emory men at the meet were distance runners Tommy Fyffe and Charles Meade, who finished 21st and 26th in the 5,000-meter run, respectively.

For the women at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, Rebecca Flink and Natalie Fenn both fell just shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:13.00.  Flink finished 16th in a time of 11:13.88, while Fenn was right behind her in 17th place with a mark of 11:14.13.  Theresa Ford finished ninth in the high jump (1.55 meters), Calley Edwards claimed 20th in the 1,500-meter run (4:48.33), and Melanie Frank took 22nd in the 800-meter run (2:18.20).

The Eagles also sent a contingent of sprinters across town to compete against mostly Division I competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational.  On the men’s side, senior Alex Greenhouse improved on his provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 18th with a time of 52.72 seconds, the fourth-fastest mark by a Division III runner this season.  The Emory women’s 4x100-meter relay team of Alicia Adams, Jasmine McCullough, Hadiza Sa-Aadu and Mary Crystal Spence finished 14th with a time of 48.39 seconds, good for a provisional qualifying mark as well.  In addition, Lauren Attiah claimed 29th in the triple jump with a distance of 11.61 meters, good for a provisional mark as well.

Spence, a senior, was also just three hundredths of a second short of the provisional qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash, finishing 48th with a time of 12.33 seconds and just eight hundredths of a second short of the provisional time in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.33 seconds, good for 40th-place.  She was followed in the 100-meter dash by Sa-Aadu in 61st place (12.69 seconds) and Adams in 63rd place (13.05 seconds), while Sa-Aadu finished 45th (25.86 seconds) and Adams 47th (26.14 seconds) in the 200-meter dash.
