Emory University juniors Xavier Fowler and
Jasmine McCullough were named the Track and Field
Athletes of the Week for the University Athletic Association (UAA)
following their performances at the Bob Pollock Invitational at
Clemson University last Saturday.
Fowler recorded a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the triple
jump, reaching a career-best distance of 14.45 meters in the
event. It was the second-best mark by a UAA competitor this
year, and .25 meters better than the provisional qualifying
mark. His jump was good for a fifth-place finish at the
meet.
McCullough recorded an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the
100-meter hurdles and a provisional time as part of the 4x100-meter
relay. Her time of 14.45 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles was
not only a personal-best mark for the junior, but also the
sixth-fastest time by a Division III athlete this season, and the
fourth-best mark in Emory history, as she finished 10th
overall in the event. McCullough later ran the leadoff leg on
the Eagles’ 4x100-meter relay team, which finished third in a
provisional time of 48.09 seconds. McCullough also finished
10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.05
seconds.
The athlete of the week recognition was the second honor of both
the season and career for McCullough, and the first career honor
for Fowler.
Emory will return to action this weekend, taking part in the Dr.
Keeler Invitational in Naperville, IL Thursday and Friday, and the
Clemson Qualifier in Clemson, SC on Friday, Saturday and
Sunday.
